Letter  of Invitation

Dear Friends:

Through the hard work of Tom Shellabarger of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, I want to invite you for what has become the annual Catholic-Labor Network Gathering (see page 11). The Gathering will begin with Mass at 8:00 a.m. on February 11, 2006, and conclude that afternoon at 2:00 p.m. It will be held at the Capital Hilton Hotel.

The schedule for the day begins at 8:00 a.m. with Mass at the Capital Hilton Hotel. The main celelbrant will be Fr. Jack O'Malley, a priest of the Diocese of  Pittsburgh, and the labor chaplain the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.

Following Mass, we will have two presentations. The first will be by Dr. Joe Holland, chairman of the Department of History, Philosphy and Global Studies at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. Prof. Holland is also the for Pax Romana USA and the author of Modern Catholic Social Teaching, published by Paulist Press in 2003.

Our second presentation will be on Day Laborers by CASA de Maryland. CASA of Maryland is a community organization that was founded in 1985 by Central American refugees and North Americans. CASA was created in response to the human needs of the thousands of Central Americans arriving to the D.C. area after fleeing wars and civil strife in their countries of origin.

If, however, you are not on my mailing list:
  1. Send me your mailing information (address, email, phone, fax, etc.) to: sinclair@pernet.net, and I will add you to my data base.
  2. Go to the electronic registration page or the USCCB web site and register electronically.
Finally, on Sunday, February 12, 2005, we will be hosted by the Washington Chapter of the Catholic-Labor Network at the 8:30 a.m. Mass at St. Matthew Cathedral, we will have coffee and pastries following the Mass.
